The goal of our breeding programme at Efri-Rauđilćkur is five-gaited horses with even gait distribution.

We are concerned that preoccupation with tölt is becoming excessive, and we see ever fewer five-gaited horses with both a strong, clear, two-beat trot and a strong, secure pace. We love a beautiful, fluid tölt, but we do not want to see the breed become one of tölters only.

Our breeding focuses on horses of extremely good character. We want power and temperament, but not at the expense of common sense. The horse should be bold and confident and at the same time sensible in its reactions. These traits should be part of the horse’s birth and breeding and not necessarily come from training.

The quality competition horses that we have exported to the US include:

  • Sindri frá Gardi
  • Pruthur frá Nedra-Asi
  • Gaefa frá Thvera
  • Thula frá Hofi
  • Vordis
  • Stikla

Baddi was one of the earlier exporters of horses to the US, beginning in 1987. He is quite familiar with American riding and training customs and understands how they differ from traditions in Iceland. He first visited the US when he was 19 years old, and he stayed for six months. Ever since, he returns every year. He has participated in exhibitions and breed demonstrations all over the country, including:

as well as exhibitions in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Baddi has competed at Landsmót, the renowned Icelandic horse competition, since 1986. In 1994, he won the breeding competition for four-year-olds with Galsi and was in the finals with Saga frá Thvera. He and Pruthur took second place that year in the five-gait. In 1998, he and Galsi won the Sports five-gait competition.

At the World Championships for Icelandic Horses, Baddi finished in the finals in 1989 and 1993, and in 1995 won the breeding championship with Pruthur.
